People pick shared apartments just because…they save a fortune. I know that renting out a condo costs a dear. More dishes, kitchen hacks, caddies…what if the apartment is shared by more than four roommates?

Say that it’s my turn to clean the bathroom. But, I know that I’m going to get late at aerobics class. Can I keep mum about it hoping that someone else would do it for me?

I’m going to fall like Icarus did, if my pride needs the entire cabinet in refrigerator. It’s not just three of them, but there are more than 4 roommates sharing the flat.

There it goes, COMPROMISE! I know that I don’t want to pay a chunky rent.

So, I’m okay sharing! I would never risk it by straying away from ground rules.

 Rather than leaving notes on empty toilet paper rolls, it’s good to replace them.

Either it’s you or them, it’s terrible both ways. Sticking to the ground rule -- the last one who uses is the one, who replaces it.

Stealing your valuables? Confront him!

Why do we share? It’s just to show the other person that we care for them. Living with your roomies in peace depends on a bit of consideration.

I knew that my food is flicked by one of the roomies. But, I don’t have to be rude about it. I know how it feels to get home bloody hungry, only to find some bones of fish steaks!

We can be subtle about it, when we confront them. Polite conversation with them would do :)

A night owl?  What’s their schedule?

Not in the middle of nightmares. It happens by the time of roommate interviews. However wild we’re , we’re social animals after all. I love reading till 1 am on a Friday.

Still, I cannot interrupt my roommate’s sleep. Running a blender by 4 am in the morning is not a wonderful idea. It’s too good an idea to drive a narcissistic roommate away!

Sharing responsibilities? It’s how things work

My roomie could clean the fridge on one of my turns due to inevitable reasons.

Month-to-month lease – This is why it’s not a wee to ask the landlord about the contract. You signing a month-to-month contract mean that you might expect the rent increasing on monthly requirements.

A common action it becomes, if the rent is going to be increased by more than 11%.

In other words, we can start our hunt for a cheaper accommodation

Like I mentioned before, buying seems to be better than renting. It’s found that rent has increased by 11% in a span as short as 3 years.

In California the landlord must provide a 30 days’ written notice in regards to month to month lease contract.

Texas alters a bit in such cases. Both the tenant and landlord must provide the notification in black & white.

Off late social media was appalled by a tenant, who gave the shock of our lives. Not a surprise in Bay Area, but think about ourselves landing in a pad that has gone up by 400%!!!

Cities like Seattle abide by SMC 7.24.030. Living in this city it becomes way too easier to find a new accommodation.

I can wait for a 60 days written notice from the landlord. Also, benchmark goes not more than 10% for a year/12 months

Tips to bring down moving costs

Who said it out? No moving happens without costing a fortune. Your pad contains three things – renter’s deposit, down payment (dream home) and then? There comes “relocation coverage “for rescue.

I know how it feels to part ways with broken candelabra! But, are you sure it’s going to be a part of your new home?

By the way, what about the busted arm chair? Bid adieu to the rugged coat stand and couches! There’s always something called ‘yard sale’.

I understood something important. I was practically relieved a day before moving because my friends helped me out with packing.

Recycling is a fairy

Where are those old cardboard boxes and shoe boxes? This is when, we realize it’s worth to save those good old boxes.

I was well-equipped with tapes, scissors and wrappers. Of course, packers would get their set of boxes, but it’s good to go for own packing to make things easier.

Are we prepped up to foresee the damages? By the time, we’re done with packers and movers, we tend to pay, say a ballpark figure of $5,000 on moving costs. Damage of household goods go untold!

On top of that, I got know about this stuff called “Pair and Sets”. A small part of such goods may be damaged, but coverage includes the entire set.

How much do you need to live in NYC?

“UNO!”

I said, as I was dropping my last card from the deck. I was looking out the window from my friend’s 2 bedroom unit. At 12 am in the morning, I felt quirky, when I was recalling the ways he was fighting to cope. I was looking at his treadmill, which was the result of frugal living in NYC. Like I said, I’m contagious he grows his sweet kitchen garden and balcony garden. Inexpensive home vegetable garden at $100.

Also, he visits ‘The Lobster Place’ often these days. Buying fishes are a bit cheaper in the fish markets of New York City.

Cellphone bills

Only figure that doesn’t scare him to death. With concession and planning he pays about $75 per month. Why to spend on phone conversation, when he could do it longer on internet?

Utility bills

He gets shaky during summer – It’s extremely hot from mid-May – Mid September.

He jitters during winter – Snow is piled up everywhere; thermostat and heaters demands his attention.

Spring and fall – he’s totally at peace.
